When replacing old weatherstripping in wooden windows and doors, a PRIMO notched weld seal is recommended.

The method of welding weatherstripping joints is outdated and has in many cases been replaced by simpler procedures, but for some types of doors and windows, it is still the only option. If you have a choice, we recommend switching to PRIMO notched weatherstripping, such as model 6307, which is a combination strip that installs easily without welding but achieves the same long-lasting results.

When installing welded sealing strips, precision is essential to achieve a tight and durable solution. The strips are cut at a 45-degree angle and welded together so they fit precisely in the corners. The strip is then installed in the groove and pressed into place—possibly using a roller, which you can find under “Sealing Strip Accessories.”

Here’s how to do it—step by step:

Cut the sealing strip at a 45-degree angle for the corner joints.
Weld the corners together to form a tight and uniform transition.
Place the strip in the corner and gently press it into the groove.
If necessary, use a roller tool to ensure the strip is seated correctly and evenly.
Check that the seal isn’t completely compressed when the door or window is closed—it needs room to spring back.

Remember: A properly installed seal retains its shape and function longer and ensures optimal sealing over time.
